5 AI workshop formats compared: which one fits your group?
Quiz Battle, Escape Room or building your own AI assistant? Per format: which group it suits, and when it doesn't. Pick the right format in one overview.
Short answer: pick the AI Quiz Battle or the AI Escape Room if you have a large or mixed group and want to strengthen collaboration. Pick the Prompt Engineering Sprint or Build Your Own AI Assistant if your team already dabbles with AI and now wants concrete work skills. Below is an honest comparison per format.
You want to organise an AI workshop for your team — but which format fits best? The differences are large: a gamified event for 80 people works nothing like a hands-on sprint for 8. The wrong choice means a day that doesn't land. In this overview we compare five formats we run regularly, so you can see at a glance which one works for your group and your goal.
1. AI Quiz Battle — for large, mixed groups
Length: 2 hours · Group: 8 to 80 people · AI experience: beginners welcome
A pub quiz with AI rounds. Teams compete across five rounds on AI myths, 'prompt the painter' and 'human or AI'. Plenty of laughter, low risk, and everyone can join in.
Pick this if:
- Your group is larger than 25 people
- AI experience varies a lot across your team
- You're using it as the kick-off of a wider company day
Don't pick this if:
- You want to learn concrete applications for your work
- Your team already works with AI a lot and wants more depth
2. AI Escape Room — for teams who want to practise collaborating
Length: 2.5 hours · Group: 6 to 40 people · AI experience: beginners welcome
Teams solve puzzles that can only be cracked with clever prompts. It combines teamwork under gentle pressure with developing an instinct for prompting.
Pick this if:
- Collaboration matters at least as much as AI knowledge
- Your team wants something that doesn't feel like a course
- Team members need to get to know each other better
Don't pick this if:
- Your team doesn't enjoy time pressure
- You're aiming at large groups (over 40)
3. Prompt Engineering Sprint — for teams building towards daily use
Length: 3 hours · Group: 6 to 30 people · AI experience: some familiarity with ChatGPT helps
Hands-on. In three hours, teams solve real work questions with ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot. You go home with two or three prompts that save time tomorrow, plus a shared prompt library.
Pick this if:
- Your people have dabbled with AI but keep getting stuck
- You want concrete, measurable impact on daily work
- Your team is made up of knowledge workers (marketing, HR, consulting, policy)
Don't pick this if:
- Your team mostly does physical or operational work
- You need to serve a large room

4. Build Your Own AI Assistant — for teams who want something tangible
Length: 4 hours · Group: 4 to 24 people · AI experience: some familiarity with ChatGPT recommended
Teams build a custom GPT or Claude Project for a real task from their work: an HR assistant, a quoting helper, a customer service bot. No code.
Pick this if:
- You want to move past 'playing' and build real assistants
- You have someone on the team who owns the task and will take it further
- You can free up a full four hours
Don't pick this if:
- Your team needs to build basic confidence with AI first
- Your group is larger than 24

5. AI Battle Royale — for commercial and creative teams
Length: 3 hours · Group: 10 to 60 people · AI experience: beginners welcome
Three creative rounds: an advert, a pitch, a company song. An AI jury plus a human jury. More creative than the Quiz, more action than the Sprint.
Pick this if:
- You want to wake up your sales, marketing or communications team
- Having fun is an explicit goal
- Your wifi is unreliable (this format can run offline)
Don't pick this if:
- Your team doesn't enjoy competition
- You're serving purely operational teams
The decision table at a glance

The numbers above are the sweet spot per format, not a ceiling. Larger groups run in parallel rounds — we've delivered company days for 200 participants more than once.

Frequently asked questions about AI workshop formats
Which AI workshop format suits a large group best?
For groups larger than 25 people, the AI Quiz Battle is almost always the best choice: up to 80 participants, no AI experience needed and everyone joins in. The AI Battle Royale is a good second choice for teams with a commercial or creative profile (up to 60 people).
What's the difference between an AI workshop and AI training?
The terms get used interchangeably, but there is a meaningful difference: a training has a defined curriculum with knowledge transfer as the goal. A workshop is more interactive and outcome-driven — participants actively do things. All our formats are workshop-like: hands-on, and directly applicable to your own work.
Can an AI workshop be run in-company?
Yes, all our formats are in-company — we come to your location, or one of your choosing. We bring all the materials and adapt the programme to your industry, your work processes and the AI experience in the room. There's no minimum group size for an in-company session.
Can you run the workshop in English?
Yes. We run every format in English as often as in Dutch, which makes it a good fit for international teams and offices where Dutch isn't the shared language. The puzzles, quiz questions and materials all exist in English; just say during the intake which language you want.
Which format should I pick if my team's AI knowledge varies a lot?
Then pick the AI Quiz Battle or the AI Escape Room. Both formats are designed so that beginners and more advanced users can take part valuably at the same time — beginners learn from the advanced, and the advanced get to shine in their role. The Prompt Sprint and the Build session ask for more baseline knowledge across the whole group.
How long does preparing an AI workshop take?
After a free thirty-minute intake we put the programme together, and you receive a proposal within three working days. The lead time from intake to workshop day is typically one to three weeks, depending on your planning and the availability of the venue.
